According to Gigabyte's web page for the Gigabyte A520I AC motherboard, it states that it supports the AMD Ryzen 5600G. Yet various videos I've seen on youtube say that the BIOS will have to be flashed to be able to use the 5600G. Will I have to update it or can I keep the BIOS as it is?

I think you will.  That Gigabyte mobo does support the ryzen 5600g if you update the bios first.  You are best off q-flashing the bios with just the psu attached and nothing else, so no cpu, memory, etc.  That mobo has a dedicated usb port for flashing the bios.  See PDF manual here

Helpful pointers much appreciated. So I must definitely update the bios, and according to the mobo info I insert a USB drive containing the bios update file into the port marked as shown and then press the flash button?
If I just have the PSU connected to it and nothing else, how will I know what version my mobo comes with?

Must you flash the BIOS? Only gigabyte support can tell you that for certain, but if they're difficult to deal with or slow in responding, it's still worth updating even if it has the latest already, as it's how you can fix a bad BIOS.

Right, get that - thank you. Going by that version options list, the latest seems to be version F13? If I put that on a USB will that work? Right now I'm waiting for the PSU to arrive which should be very soon, then I can go ahead with it.

Maybe check the file name initially.  For my mobo the instructions were as below, so should be similar for yours.

Do these steps before flashing the bios with the Q-button.  Download latest bios update that matches your mobo from the mobo mfrs website.  Then decompress the downloaded file and save it to a usb flash drive and rename it gigabyte.bin.  Flash drive must be less than 16gb and formatted to FAT32 or 16.  Then insert into white usb port at rear I/O panel.  Connect 12V cpu connector and main power connector to mobo.

Thanks again for helping, I find your answers tally with Gigabyte's manual - very clear and easy to understand. Now just waiting on the PSU. Then I'll go ahead and do it, then give a mini update.

I'm also now very mindful that the flash drive must be USB 2.0 and not 3.0 and that it be 16gb or less and formatted to FAT32 and that extensions must be enabled.

Just so happens a relation of mine had the same mobo with the same version (F13) for a new mini-itx build and the bios didn't have to be flashed according to Gigabyte.
